All About Jim Hicks, Your Newest Online Poker Buddy

So you want to know more about me? Wow: no one EVER wants to know more about me! I'd better make this good, then. :) As I said, I'm a film studies major at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. I'm going into my second year and I'm loving it. I'm originally from a small town in Alberta called Medicine Hat, but I moved here in 2003 to be closer to my girlfriend (now my fiancee), and my decision to study film came after that. I've always loved movies, for as long as I can remember, and I've been making my own for years now on a rickety old 8mm. Even in school, with access to all kinds of top-of-the-line equipment, I tend to use it whenever I can.

My parents both still live in Alberta where my father is an Anglican minister, and my little baby sister is just about to graduate high school and move on to the University of Alberta to study Sociology and Criminology. I have an older brother kicking around SOMEWHERE in Europe, but he's rarely in a position to send us much more than the odd postcard when he gets the chance so we're not really sure where. I'm looking forward to him coming back home: he promised he'd get a photo of himself with Roman Polanski for me. How he plans to pull THAT off I have no idea!

As for poker, it's my third love: my fiancee, making movies, and playing poker. I only started playing for real a few months ago, but I'd already known the basics of the game. I just fell in love with it, & take every chance I can to play more. I started buying books like Doyle Brunson's Super System, The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky, Holdem Excellence by Lou Krieger and a whack of other poker books, and started playing online whenever I got the chance. I used to play at Ultimate Bet and Party Poker the most, but lately Hollywood Poker is the only site for me: it's just the best all-around online poker site I've been to, period. There's just something about it I can't put my finger on... The way I see it, there are much more harmful - and less exciting - addictions out there!
